For the most part, the processes he originally proposed to account for imagery are now re-used (with some minor modifications) to deal with perception too. Previous cognitive neuropsychological research on patients with conditions such as amnesia or various language disorders was hampered by the fact that the precise areas of brain damage could only be established by postmortem examination (see Chapters 7 and 13). Other researchers have looked at more complex versions of the problem and noted strategic changes in subjects’ behaviour.
