I took a demand letter from Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund to finally have both men listed on the birth certificate. • On May 4, 2004, Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed a law that forbids same-sex couples residing out-of-state from adopting children in Oklahoma. • The Adoption Invalidation Law, hastily passed at the end of the 2004 Oklahoma legislative session states that Oklahoma �shall not recognize an adoption by more than one individual of the same sex from any other state or foreign jurisdiction.� The law was so extreme it had the potential to make children adopted by same-sex couples in other states legal orphans when the families are in Oklahoma.
